A rainbow to start off move day
HELLO, MEMBERS AND YET-TO-BES…For the last few weeks, we’ve been turning a pile of boxes into a shop at The Food Connect Shed. With an abundance of help to thank for it, the Co-op will be open for mooching all day Saturday 15th, with lunch served for everyone around. After lunch, we'd love your help on our next big step: becoming a real live registered Co-op. Read on! |  We’re not the only new tenants at The Shed. |

WE MOVED
 Our final pack day Moving Day was barely 3 weeks ago. Last boxes packed at Moorooka, fridges turned off and hauled into trucks, then unpacking at our new home where we met an unexpected tenant… |  Leaving…  Arriving |

… so everything went back into boxes.
The most expedient course of action ended up being to cage ourselves in and leave the rest of the warehouse to the little cutey, so Daniel stepped up to the challenge.
Three weeks later, we’re almost unpacked.
To everyone who lifted, hauled, fed, cheered, netted and finally, trapped: thank you. Moving days like this are little hints at what ‘being co-operative’ can achieve. Anything’s doable with lateral thinking, enough hands, and delicious food.
Saturday 15th August
LUNCH + WORKSHOP + SHOPPING
7am–4:30pm: Come on in! Are you picking up your box Saturday? Or just your bagels? Need a bit of a top up? The doors are open all day, and we now have shopkeepers in place for your entertainment.
12–12:45pm: Lunch. Everyone's invited. No cost (because eating + cooking + together = Co-op). Please RSVP by replying to this newsletter with approximate numbers of adults and kids. You don’t have to get it exactly right, but we want to hit the ball park on numbers by Tuesday 11am so the Lunch Team knows how much to prepare.
New members, trialling members, working and general — please come to lunch (RSVP!) and stay for the workshop. We aren't a Co-op without you.
Not a member but curious? RSVP for lunch too! Come say hi and we can chat about how to set you up.
And if you're a working member who hasn't found a role yet — please do definitely come to lunch so we can look at the roster and troubleshoot.
1–2:30pm: Workshop: Becoming a Real Co-op Part 1. After lunch, we’ll get stuck into our purpose, which is a key piece for our constitution. You might have noticed that we have one we’ve been working with for the last few years: Collective Abundance, Food System Renewal. Does it feel right to you? Does it capture what we’re doing, or is it missing something important? There’s also some other constitutional pieces we’ll look into if we have time, but don’t worry if we don’t. We'll need a small group of constitutional nerds to carry the work forward anyway, and I’ll be seeking you out. If you know you’re one already, please feel free to put your hand up now!

NEW… Gevity Mayos, Green St Ferments, some more Crunch Preserves, Great Ocean Road Ducks, Bundarra Charcuterie, and great value 9 Dorf Chicken Frames.  Garden medley-ing | BULK STATUS Our bulk size minimums are increasing & more retail sizes are appearing… why? When we are registered as a retailing not-for-profit co-op, we can sell goods packaged by the producer and labelled with all their weights and nutritional info, but we can't break bulk down into smaller portions until we get a food licence. We'll do this as our next priority after registering as a Co-op. Step by step. In the meantime, as we run out of certain bulk items, retail sizes will be our interim solution, with larger sizes remaining accessible if your household’s game. And if the unit currently says / kg you can still order it, but do so in the multiples of the minimums specified. We’ll portion it for you, and you can bring along containers and repack it yourself if you like. |
